Tulip Marble Table

The Tulip Marble Table is a beautiful piece, taking its roots from Eero Saarinen's research into the concept of “organic furniture”. In the 1940s, Saarinen (a Finnish American industrial designer and architect) created this table along with the Tulip Stool.

Both pieces featured smooth, curvy designs and typify the minimalistic aesthetic that was present in a lot of Saarinen's work. The shape of the Tulip Marble Table is reminiscent of that of the Tulip Stool; the table has a wide, round base which supports its frame in place of multiple legs. From this base, the table's central support column branches upward in a slender, stalk-like shape. As its name suggests, the table has a vaguely floral form, widening into a circular or ovular top.

Available in multiple sizes, the original Tulip models were made with cast iron bases, and they came with tops of laminate, marble or wood. These days, the Tulip Marble Table is instead made with glossy fibreglass, giving it beauty as well as durability.
